Concept
My inspiration stems from my inner fear of having to commit to one medium, one world, and one culture, which would compromise my voice and identity because any one of them by itself cannot represent the entirety of me. Therefore, the project adopts different forms of animations — 2D, 3D, and stop motion — with each highlighting one character and the world / culture she resides in. Each medium also reflects on a part of me (soul, shell / body, heart), one of my imaginary cultural identities (Japanese, American, Chinese), and my relationship with each medium (dream, reality, memory).
